Rosaryville State Park

Location:
Upper Marlboro Maryland
Description:
Completed in 2004 Rosaryville is one of the newest trail systems in Maryland and the first in our area built utilizing the mechanized services of IMBA’s Trail Solutions team. Thanks to the mechanized building techniques and a bunch of hard working volunteers the perimeter trail was completed in record time. Since the perimeter trail was completed these same techniques have since been utilized in other projects such as the Hoyles Mill Connector and Wakefield redesign. In addition to serving as a prototype for future projects the completion of this trail added over 8 miles of fast and fun singletrack to an area that previously didn’t offer much in the way of riding mtb opportunities. When asked to describe this trail I’ve often described it as a cross between Schaefer Farms and Fountainhead. The trails are fast and flowing like Schaefer with rolling terrain similar but less extreme than Fountainhead.

Technical Difficulty:
Beginners may have to dismount for the occasional log pile or creek crossing however the technical challenges here are generally few and far in between.
Aerobic Difficulty:
No killer climbs however the terrain is generally rolling with a few short moderately steep climbs thrown in for good measure. Depending on pace this trail can range from on the easy side to moderately challenging. There is roughly 600′ of total climbng over the course of the loop.

Recommended Route:
My personal preference is to ride clockwise. From the parking lot go back out to the road and you will find the trail head directly across the street. Follow the carbonite signs with the white arrows. The trails are well marked and easy to follow in this direction.
